World Languages
World languages are an important part of the curriculum at all SABIS® schools. At Milestone SABIS® Academy of New Orleans (MSANO) all students receive Spanish daily. The instructors in the Spanish Department are all native speakers, and this exposure to the language as spoken in the native tongue, facilitates and enhances greater communicative competence and language proficiency as well as a more comprehensive knowledge of native conventions, customs, beliefs and systems of meaning of other cultures and countries.
In-class instruction covers six areas: listening comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, reading and conversation. In addition to classroom instruction, the Spanish Department looks for opportunities where the students can learn and experience the Hispanic culture first hand and use their knowledge of the language in a real life setting. Spanish Club activities such as the International fair and field trips to Hispanic restaurants and other cultural events, give students the opportunity to experience the variety, richness and vibrancy of various aspects of the Hispanic culture.
